Homeless Connections
Homelessness has a face and it has names also.  It can be anyone including you at any given time.
  • Hunger
  • Under employment or unemployment
  • Inadequate parenting skills
  • Physical, emotional and mental illness
  • Illiteracy
  • Lack of education and social skills
  • Unaware of available resources
  • Hopelessness
  • Loss of human dignity
  • Spiritual crisis
Some of the faces that you see in the homeless are chronically homeless, homeless  families with children, veterans and youth.
Giving In Action has a special heart to aid and assist the homeless living in the streets.  Men, women and children all live on the streets.  And while many make it to shelters, many more do not and must find shelter wherever they can, which means that if they cannot they are exposed to the elements most often without food, water or money.  We are here trying to meet the needs of the homeless.  We have or are in the process of putting into place programs and services that provide the tools and resources people in crisis need to help them stabilize and rebuild their lives.  There are always going to be those who won't come to us but we reach out to the people on the streets by giving blankets, toiletries, and water and soon through utilization of connections we will be able to connect them with shelters that have more than a very limited and temporary plan for getting them off of the streets.
Adult Literacy & GED Program
In the state of Georgia there is a graduation rate that has held steady for several years of about 66%, and of those who have graduated only 21% hold a college degree.
By 2014:
The National Aeronautics & Space Administration estimates that american colleges will only turn out 198,000 engineers to take the place of the 2 million baby boomers scheduled to retire by 2016
The U.S. Department of Education estimates 60% of all new jobs in the 21st century will require skills possessed by only 20% of the current workforce.
The U.S. Department of Labor forecasts that by 2014 the U.S. economy will have the largest workforce in the nation's history at more than 162 million people - will not be enough to fill more than 165 million jobs projected to be available.
Millions of jobs will go unfulfilled because workers lack the specialized skills required to fill them. . . .
U.S. government estimates shortages of more than 10 million skilled workers by 2016.
These are the same children who are going to be given the task of running our country . . .
Our adult literacy program includes:
  • GED
  • Life Skills - money management, employability skills, resume writing, understanding applications
  • Reading and Comprehension
  • Partnering with a mentor
  • Connections to Job Training organizations
  • Connections to organizations that employ people with mental challenges or ex offenders
  • Basic computer skills
Through our Adult Literacy program, adults can find a freedom that was nonexistent before.

After School Tutoring Program
How many Georgia schools met Adequate Yearly Progress in the 2013 - 2014 school year?  The good news is that out of 2153 Georgia schools only 20% did not meet Adequate Yearly Progress. . . Overall however the state of Georgia did not meet AYP.
Another good bit of news is that from 2008, when the graduation rate was only 63% for the state of Georgia, today it is 75.4%.  This increase is due in part to the dedicated people who hold afterschool tutoring sessions and homework help such as Giving In Action. . . . . If you would like your child to participate in these after school sessions please call Giving In Action at 770-374-2300 for more information.
Giving In Action will serve all enlisted members in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and the Coast Guard and their families.  Our Armed Forces Division provides counseling, Airport Welcome Centers, senior centers, hospital programs and much more of all branches along with connection to a network of services in order to meet the unmet needs of military families.
Many military families are falling victim to our current economic crisis, the same as the rest of the United States.  However after serving our country, fighting a war and in some cases losing lives to help keep this country free, do they and their families not deserve a fighting chance in their civilian lives?
Giving In Action and their partners are grateful for the service of military people and will do all that they can to make sure that individuals and families are connected to services and assistance to not only sustain them, but help them to become self - sufficient.
Through Giving In Action's Military Family Connections see our plan to help these people of honor readjust to family and life in general.
